mom hit the nail on the head

so, i e-mailed my cousin, and i didn't really know how to go about it, and my mom was like "talk to her like your friend" so instead i wrote kinda "matter-of-factly" colloquial, i guess, and this is what she responded with (not the entire email, o' course):

strange email, it's written as if i am your old aunt
who you've never met and feel uncomfortable talking
to.

Do i make you uncomfortable?
